Homemade mochi is truly something special. Enjoy the mugwort bean paste mochi, with the soft aroma of mugwort and Hino rice! [Ishikura Mochi Shop, Yonago City]

"Homemade rice cakes are especially delicious, after all."
Ishikura Mochi Shop in Yonago City gives you that feeling.
Founded 40 years ago, the restaurant continues to preserve the same traditional flavor using recipes passed down from previous generations.
This locally rooted shop offers the "goodness of Japanese ceremonial food" all year round, from rice cakes made with Tottori Prefecture's Hino glutinous rice, which stands out for its fluffy rice aroma and glossy, stretchy texture, to daifuku made with seasonal fruits and other ingredients, to New Year's mochi, sekihan, sasamaki, and pandayaki.
Access
Appearance and introspection
It is easily accessible, about a 6-10 minute walk from Yonago Station, making it a convenient location for tourists visiting Yonago City.
Another great thing about the location is that it's close enough that you can get there while strolling around the station.
An impressive green sign hangs in front of the store, blending naturally into the townscape that still retains the atmosphere of the Showa era.
There are also commercial facilities and restaurants scattered around the area, making it an attractive place to drop in on while walking around town.
As soon as you step inside the store, you'll feel a nostalgic, warm atmosphere reminiscent of a traditional Japanese confectionery shop.
Founded in 35, the shop has been visited by locals for celebrations, annual events, and to choose gifts, and the entire space exudes a sense of history and security as a "town rice cake shop."
Another speciality of Ishikura Mochiten is the seasonal "Panda Yaki."
Although the sale period was not yet over, I was able to see the cute sign that remained in front of the store, and it was a soothing moment that made me feel relaxed and at ease.
Mugwort bean paste rice cake
The bean paste rice cakes made with finely kneaded mugwort leaves have a unique aroma.
Because it uses leaves instead of powder, the fresh, gentle flavor of mugwort spreads softly with every bite.
There is plenty of red bean paste inside.
It has a subtle sweetness but is rich in flavor, and is perfectly balanced with the soft, stretchy mochi.
You'll feel satisfied until the last bite, and you'll find yourself reaching for one more.
The moment I put it in my mouth, memories suddenly came back to me of the time when I was at my parents' house, sitting around the mortar and pestle with my whole family, pounding rice cakes while chatting away.
The mochi rice cakes are made with such painstaking care that it feels as though they naturally evoke a sense of nostalgia and warmth.
It is not only a great everyday snack, but also a great accompaniment to annual celebrations and milestones in life.
